Teetering on the trade brink

US President Donald J Trump’s intention to proceed with tariffs of 25% on Chinese imports from 6 July, and the announcement of Chinese retaliation in kind, has brought us closer to an all-out trade war. The US is also at adds with traditional allies including the UU, Canada and Mexico.

Common sense may prevail before 6 July but the outlook is bleak. Read our commentary prepared for Radio NZ here.
